The new virus, officially called Covid-19 is a dangerous and fast spreading disease. So far, around 20 per cent of confirmed cases have been classed as severe or critical. So many schools, buildings, conferences have been closed down to avoid this pandemic disease.

The disease which started in 2019 last year in China has several cases of unusual pneumonia in Wuhan, a port city of 11 million people in the central Hubei province. The virus was unknown. Several of those infected worked at the city’s Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, which was shut down on January 1. From China it started spreading to other countries in the world.

It is highly important to take note of the possible ways to stay safe from this disease.

1. Wash your hands frequently
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.
2. Keep distance from people with cough
Endeavour to stay at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
3. Practice respiratory hygiene
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
4. Avoid crowded settings
The risk of exposure of the virus increases in crowded settings, particularly closed-in settings with little air circulation. Avoid settings such as conferences, public events (like concerts and sporting events), religious gatherings, public spaces (like movie theatres and shopping malls), and public transportation (like buses, metro, trains).
